Dearest Sister
Hi, I’m Cindy… your companion on the rocky yet wondrous road ahead.
On that fateful Friday afternoon when my surgeon confirmed I had breast cancer I was almost paralysed by the force of conflicting, swirling emotions. Anger, frustration, disappointment, denial, grief and devastation. Why me, why now?
Somewhere amidst the tears, shock and confusion, once I’d had time to stop and breathe, there was a quieter voice rising up in me, calling me to pay attention, to listen and heed the call. I intuitively knew I wanted to journey very differently with cancer this time around. I no longer wanted to be a passenger but wanted to take a lead role in my healing.
I also knew that I had little energy to ‘conquer’ or ‘fight’ this unwanted visitor but instead, to meet it with curiosity and compassion and discover why it was here so I would never have to venture down this path again.
