6 Actions To Get You Motivated
Do you find yourself ignoring the boring but important tasks on your list? Do you feel like it’s all too hard and want to give up? Feeling stuck?
If so, you may be struggling with procrastination. Procrastination can be confused with laziness, but they are very different.
Procrastination involves making a conscious choice to do something else instead of the task that you know you ‘should’ be doing. On the other hand, being lazy suggests an apathy and unwillingness to take action.
I’m pretty sure I don’t need to warn you that giving in to the unresourceful pattern of procrastination can have serious consequences for you and your coaching business. The occasional bout of procrastination can leave us feeling guilty or ashamed. And worse, it can lead to reduced productivity and ultimate failure to delivery on your business mission.
If procrastination and low productivity persists, this is a sure formula to flatline your mojo and ensure your business goes down the toilet. You don’t want that. Your clients don’t want that. So, let’s take a look at what you can do:
6 Actions To Get You Motivated
1 Name & Own It
If you’re feeling stuck and unmotivated, then name it. The first step is to acknowledge and accept that you are feeling stuck. There is no point denying what you are feeling. Own it.
2 Re-connect With Your ‘WHY’
I wrote about the importance of connecting with our ‘why’ in my blog titled, ‘6 ways to find your soul’s purpose’. I shared about my struggle in feeling disconnected with the myriad of activities I called my work until I connected with ‘why’ I was doing what I was doing. “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” Nietzsche
Connecting in with your soul’s purpose and what you want to achieve in your business is a great way to chunk up on what’s most important to your current situation. Picture it. Feel into it. Re-connect with that core purpose that most likely brought you to where you are today.
3 Decide on Your Path
I see many coaches struggling with what I call ‘options paralysis’. The world is a vast and abundant place affording us with an endless sea of opportunities. So many opportunities that we can get lost and confused working out which is the best way forward.
There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ path to take. Listen to your inner wisdom and decide which option is the one which will bring you closer to what you love doing most. As Jack Canfield believes, our life purpose is to achieve mastery. So, if every decision we make brings us closer and closer to that which we love and assists us to fulfil our purpose, this must be the ‘right’ decision.
Decide it.
4 Commit to Action
Once your decision is made. Stick to it. For many, we get caught up in second guessing that we’ve made the right decision and procrastination persists. You’ve made the decision, stick to your guns. Then commit to it. Take action. Get going.
What action(s) do you need to take? Are they in pursuit and alignment with your why? When will you start? And when do you aim to complete them by?
5 Set Yourself a Reward
If you’re like me, you like working towards a goal. To know that taking action has been worthwhile. When working as a solopreneur, feeling connected to something larger than ourselves or getting recognition for our work is much harder to achieve. So the best way to achieve a reward is to set one for yourself and then once you’ve completed your goal, to reward yourself.
Rewards can take all shapes and sizes. They can range from treating yourself to a walk in the sun, to lunch with a friend, a massage or weekend escape. It’s your business so you get to choose what rewards are worth working for.
6 Give Gratitude
One of my most favourite ways to get myself out of a slump is to reflect on all the wonderful things that have happened to bring me to where I am today in my business and life more broadly. There are so many things to be grateful for, even all the tough lessons because they mould and shape our journey too.
Try starting a gratitude journal. Write in your journal before you go to bed. List all the amazing things no matter how large and small that have happened today that you have to be grateful for.
Better yet, shout your gratitudes from the rooftop on our ‘Give Gratitude’ facebook page. Request to join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/givegratitude/
